Good moving planning is half the battle for an efficient, hassle-free relocation. We strongly recommend planning 4 to 6 weeks ahead of your actual moving date. Please refer to our moving timeline for full planning details.
If you need to relocate on an urgent or very short notice, CEMovers has flexible emergency moving services to accommodate your tight schedule.
The following 7 steps will guide you through a seamless door-to-door moving process.
Step 1 – Pre-move Survey
Every relocation is unique with individual customer requirements. A pre-move survey is essential to fully understand your needs and tailor our service accordingly. We provide this service completely free of charge and with no obligation.
Contact CEMovers to arrange a pre-move survey appointment. One of our professional moving consultants will visit you at your convenience. From the very start, this consultant will be your dedicated personal contact, taking care of all arrangements until your belongings are safely delivered to your new destination.
A pre-move survey normally takes 20 minutes to one hour.
Assess shipment volume
Our moving specialist will walk through your property room by room and record all items you intend to move. This allows us to calculate the exact estimated volume of your shipment. Since our quotation is based on the assessed volume, please make sure all moving items are pointed out during the survey. If you plan to purchase additional furniture or personal goods, or have items from your office to relocate, please inform our specialist on site.
Explain moving procedures & required documents
After the property walkthrough, our specialist will discuss all relevant moving arrangements with you, including professional packing and protection for valuable items, antique appraisal for vintage goods, transit insurance, origin and destination customs documentation, shipping methods and transit time, as well as final delivery procedures at destination.
Confirm moving details
We will discuss and confirm your preferred packing and moving schedule, destination access conditions, handling arrangements for heavy and bulky items, and record all your special requests and concerns. We will answer all your questions until you are fully satisfied.
Step 2 – Quotation & Confirmation
Based on the pre-move survey and our consultation, CEMovers will prepare a customized relocation package tailored to your specific needs with reasonable and cost-effective rates. The detailed moving quotation will be sent to you by email or in person shortly afterwards.
The package includes full information such as competitive pricing, service inclusions and exclusions, insurance terms and premium, required customs documents, payment terms and confirmed moving schedules. All costs are fully disclosed and clarified before any service begins, for your complete peace of mind.
Shortly after sending the quotation, our moving specialist will contact you to answer any questions and discuss further details as needed.
Once you accept the quotation, please sign the document. For company account payments, please affix your official company chop, then send a scanned copy back to us by email. We will confirm and arrange your packing date according to your schedule.
Step 3 – Preparations Before Packing
Transit Insurance
CEMovers provides comprehensive household goods transit insurance coverage. The insurance premium is calculated as a percentage of your declared goods value.
An Insurance Declaration Inventory Form will be sent to you for completion. Please carefully read all insurance terms and conditions on the reverse side before filling out the form.
It is extremely important that you return the completed Insurance Declaration Form to us before our packing team starts work.
Antique Appraisal & Export
All Chinese antique furniture, carpets, vases, wooden crafts and similar vintage decorative items require official inspection by China’s cultural relics authority before export, together with an Antique Export Certificate.
CEMovers can arrange for official inspectors to visit your residence for on-site appraisal. For small quantities of antiques, we can also arrange drop-off inspection at the designated authority center. We recommend scheduling antique inspection as early as possible, especially during peak moving seasons.
Customs Document Preparation
Please check the Customs Clearance – Origin & Destination section in our moving package for the full list of required documents. Prepare all paperwork well in advance of packing. For some destinations, overseas customs forms can only be completed after your arrival in the new country.
Self-Packing Guidelines for Personal Effects
Some customers prefer to pack personal items such as clothing and books by themselves. You may contact us to request packing cartons and materials, and return the Pre-move Carton Request Form to our office. Upon receiving your request, we will deliver cartons and packing supplies to your residence.
Please leave all fragile items, electronic appliances and furniture to our professional packers for proper packing and protection. You may refer to our official pre-move packing guideline for more instructions.
Step 4 – Professional On-site Packing
Our professional packing team will arrive punctually on your scheduled packing date. An English-speaking packing supervisor will introduce the team to you and confirm the working schedule. The supervisor will then walk through every room to confirm all items to be packed.
Throughout the packing process, our supervisor will keep communicating with you to ensure all your requirements are strictly followed.
Under the supervisor’s arrangement, our packers will use professional packing materials for all your belongings. Heavy, bulky and high-value items will be placed into custom wooden crates for maximum protection during transit.
Every packed carton will be marked with a serial number and a clear description of contents. We will prepare a detailed packing inventory list on site. Upon completion of packing, you will be asked to sign the inventory to confirm all items and packages are accounted for. You will receive a copy of the inventory for your own records.
After packing is finished, the supervisor will inspect every room with you to ensure no belongings are left behind before the team departs.
We will collect all necessary documents from you after packing, including customs forms, original insurance documents, contact information and service evaluation forms.
Step 5 – Origin Customs Clearance, Shipping & Storage
With all documents provided by you, we will complete customs clearance procedures at the origin port. Your belongings will be loaded and shipped via reliable ocean or air freight carriers to your destination, following your preferred timeline.
We handle all your valuables with the utmost care throughout the entire process. Your shipment is under real-time tracking and constant supervision from origin to destination, and you can check the shipment status anytime.
We also offer short-term and long-term warehouse storage services for your belongings, either after packing at origin or upon arrival at destination, upon your request.
Step 6 – Destination Customs Clearance & Door Delivery
Immediately after your shipment departs, we will forward your contact details and shipment information to our trusted local partner at destination. Our local agent will contact you shortly after your arrival to assist with customs documentation. We will arrange customs clearance once your goods arrive at the destination port. The delivery time will be confirmed with you after clearance is completed.
On the delivery day, our team will move all goods into your new home, verify carton quantities, unpack items and place furniture and belongings according to your instructions. We will reassemble dismantled furniture and clean up all packing debris after delivery is finished.
You will be required to sign the Delivery Receipt and packing inventory list to confirm safe receipt and good condition of all items. You will also be invited to complete and sign our Job Evaluation Form.
Step 7 – Payment Terms
We offer a 2-week credit period for corporate account moving services. For personal moves, full payment is required prior to shipment dispatch.
